Reporting to the BBSS and BBI administration, the First Nation Engagement & Wellness Coordinator will support student positive student mental health (including, emotional, spiritual, behavioural and physical well-being); provide wellness check-ins for students at-risk or requiring support and support wellness related activities for youth at school (grade 7-12).
The First Nation Engagement & Wellness Coordinator will connect First Nations students with mental health concerns with appropriate supports and effectively communicate and advocate on behalf of students as a member of a school support team. This individual will help meet the changing needs of students, student goals, student needs and address challenges and barriers as well as effectively support social and emotional wellness. The First Nation Engagement & Wellness Coordinator will support connections with community partners for wellness related activities and mental health promotion together with organizing events and campaigns. Participating in a tiered approach to supports, creating pathways to care and helping students to connect to internal and external services as required. Some flex hours may be required to assist students and participating in activities outside of the school day.
• A College diploma or University degree in Social Work/Social Service Work/Education/Education Support/Indigenous Studies preferred
• Understanding of current and emerging issues concerning First Nation student health, mental health, and wellness
• Experience working with First Nation children and families
• Able to work collaboratively in a team environment
• Experience working with First Nation people and organizations
• Excellent interpersonal and communications
• Excellent computer skills and experience
• Ability to work with confidential and sensitive information
• Some travel is required
