Duties of this LEAP Job Posting: Kenora Chiefs Advisory Sports & Recreational team is looking to hire a RIGHT TO PLAY Community mentor to support Wabaseemoong. This position would report to the KCA Sports and Recreation Manager but would work predominately within the Wabaseemoong community. The Community Mentor will be responsible for implementing the goals of the RIGHT TO PLAY program within Wabaseemoong. The overall goal of this position is to promote life skills and leadership skills in and for our First Nation Youth through training, sports, recreations and cultural activities.
• Coordinate all details and logistics needed to deliver training, workshops and events to youth participants within assigned communities
• Assist and Support youth in participating in program activities and events
• Facilitate leadership and recreation programming based on the Right to Play Core Program
• Work closely with schools, Health Directors, Chiefs and Council/Leadership and community staff to plan and deliver programming to community youth that fosters a strong relationship amongst the community and Kenora Chiefs Advisory
• Develop an outreach plan that ensures all community partners are aware of when Right to Play will be facilitating and maintaining visible presents within KCA Communities.
• Organize intergenerational or Youth-Led initiatives, events or tournaments to KCA communities
• Effectively lead programming in community that offers a minimum of 8 hours/ week (January – June & September – December) and 12 hour/ weeks (July to August)
• Facilitate a registration process for youth and provide program information to all interested
• Keep organized records of all activities and prepare a monthly report which includes relevant program information, financial records, assessments and data required by the Director of
• Work collaboratively with KCA Youth & Family Wellness Camp, Equine, Education, Sport & Recreational Programming
• Complete administrative tasks on an on-going basis, including emailing, photocopying, scanning, printing, faxing, monitoring a budget/expenses and other communication tasks as required
• Attend, travel (if needed) and participate in remote and in person professional development
• Monitor and evaluate programs as required
• Participating in KCA department activities
• Willing to work flexible hours as needed – Evening and Weekends
• Other duties as required
Qualifications for this LEAP Job Posting: • Highly motivated and committed to program development within First Nation communities
• General computer skills (Microsoft) and familiar with office equipment
• Excellent facilitation, interpersonal, communication, problem solving and leadership skills
• Strong organizational skills
• Ability to work independently and in a team setting
• Good team, work ethic and capable of working independently
• Demonstrated workshop facilitation & event planning
• Coaching and mentoring skills
• Knowledge of completing program reports and collecting various program statistics
Education and/or Experience:
• College diploma or equivalent community work experience in the following areas:
o Community Services (Child and Youth Worker, Recreation and Leisure, Social Service Worker, Early Childhood Educator); Aboriginal specific programs (Community Advocacy, Education, Child and Family Services Aboriginal Studies, Studies in Traditional Teaching)
• Experience working with children and youth in recreation, arts and cultural programming
• Understanding of the Ojibway language is considered an asset
Additional Requirements:
• Valid driver’s license and vehicle
• Must be willing to travel when required
• Must be able to work evenings and weekends as needed
