Ne-Chee Friendship Centre requires an enthusiastic, energetic individual to deliver its AKWE:GO Children’s program,  focusing on after-school interventions. This position will be responsible to ensure that the needs of children, ages 7-12, identified as at risk, are met in a timely and culturally sensitive manner.

Wages: $46,000 to $48,000 to start

Duties of this LEAP Job Posting:
  • To ensure that the Akwe:go program is grounded in culture based child development principles and practices
  • To promote the development of protocols and referral agreements as appropriate to meet the developmental needs of Indigenous children in the community
  • To conduct a needs assessment for children and to develop a plan of action to meet the needs of children referred to the Akwe:go Program
  • To refer children to appropriate services as required to meet the needs of the children and to document the results of these referrals
  • To coordinate individual and group activities (physical, social) as required to meet needs of program clients
  • To liaise with community children’s services
  • To assist in children’s development through increasing life skills, safety awareness and anti-violence training
  • To increase cultural understanding of children and their families
Qualifications for this LEAP Job Posting:
  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in Social or Human services; or relevant accredited training combined with related work experience
  • Previous work experience dealing with Indigenous children and youth
  • Ability to work professionally, collaboratively with children, youth & their families as well as agency, community and agency personnel
  • Excellent communication skills both written & verbal; proficient in offering presentations
  • Working knowledge of computers
  • Positive attitude & demonstrated capacity to act as a healthy lifestyle role model
  • Able to work flexible hours including weekends & evenings
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle
  • First Aid/CPR training definite asset
