Position Summary: The Assistant Director of Resident Care is an integral and valued member of the Wiigwas Elders and Seniors Care resident care team. The ADRC supports the Director of Resident Care and provides, oversees, and manages the care of the nursing department to provide excellent care for the residents of Wiigwas Elder and Senior Care, following the guiding principles and standards of the College of Nurses of Ontario. The ADRC advocates for quality of life for the residents by modelling leadership, ethics, advocacy, and excellence in the assessment process ensuring safe resident-focused experience. The ADRC actively leads and contributes to Wiigwas Elders and Seniors Care team meetings, committees, care planning, and resident Care Conferences.

Duties of this LEAP Job Posting:
  • The effective leadership and management of the nursing service in LTC to ensure the efficient utilization of human, physical, and financial resources to meet or exceed Ministry care standards.
  • Continuously improving nursing policies, procedures, and programs to ensure compliance with best practice research, and applicable legislative changes/requirements.
  • Advocating for change within the home and fostering an environment that is person-centered, proactive, and open to new ideas.
  • Supervises and continuously strives to improve the medication administration program and related processes. Assists staff in resident care in times of emergency to instruct staff on improving care methods or when assistance is required by staff
  • Supports and facilitates the implementation and evaluation of mandatory programs under the Long-Term Care Act including skin and wound, falls, pain, restraints, and continence
  • Provides leadership to all areas of the nursing department in line with strategic directions and departmental priorities.
  • Supports the Continuous Quality Improvement Program of the Home by completing Inspection Protocols, indicators, annual program evaluations, and participating in Accreditation related activities. Identify areas for improvement and implement initiatives.
  • Coordinates the ordering, inventory management, distribution, and appropriate and safe use of supplies and equipment for the nursing department.

Qualifications for this LEAP Job Posting:
  • Registration as a Registered Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Post RN education and experience in gerontology or related field preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a long-term care home setting – Demonstrated leadership skills and organizational skills.
  • LEADS framework training is an asset.
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills, labor and human relations skills, and proven ability to build and maintain effective relations and partnerships with all stakeholders.
  • Ability to supervise, and provide direction to RPNs, PSWs and QA’s – Ability to multi-task, and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
  • Commitment to providing excellent quality, resident focused care.
  • Ability to find efficiencies in both time management and human resources.
  • Strong ability to prioritize and to positively handle competing priorities, in an environment with frequent and competing deadlines
  • A leadership style that is open, flexible, considerate, compassionate, honest, and fair
  • A can-do attitude with a willingness to lead by example and to be present for staff and to address challenges in a timely manner.
