Community Garden Coordinator

Women’s Place Kenora is a resource centre empowering all women working within a feminist perspective. We provide peer/group counselling, workshops, referrals, pre-employment and entrepreneurship training, farmer’s market opportunities, community kitchens, lending library, community gardens, free-cycle room, and public awareness events.

The successful applicant should be a dynamic, task-oriented individual that takes pride in seeing the results of a job through to completion. In this position you will work mainly outdoors maintaining Women’s Place Kenora’s property and working with the women in caring for their square foot gardens. The COMMUNITY GARDEN COORDINATOR will also help to develop and facilitate programs about the growing food security network and workshops on the therapeutic value of gardening. In this position you will contribute to a team effort but also enjoy opportunities to manage your own multiple tasks and prioritize independently. This is more than just a job! This is a rare opportunity that will provide the experience to learn firsthand the challenges women in our community face on a daily basis. The Community Garden Coordinator will work under the guidance and mentorship of the Executive Director.

Duties of this LEAP Job Posting:

Maintenance & care of community gardens
Assisting women in square foot gardens
General grounds work (cutting lawn, etc.)
Attendance at Farmer’s Market
Learning about traditional foods
Assist with WPK workshops
Maintaining the outdoor library

Qualifications for this LEAP Job Posting:

• Open to youth between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment
• Current criminal reference check required
• Ability to work independently and as a team member
• Good communication skills both oral and written
• Positive and friendly attitude and is eager to learn about gardening & food security
