The Kenora office of the Northwest Community Legal Clinic, a community legal clinic funded by Legal Aid Ontario, is seeking an individual to assume the position of community legal worker or community legal worker paralegal. A community legal clinic with offices in Kenora, Fort Frances and Atikokan. The NCLC provides access to justice to vulnerable members of our community through legal services in the areas of Tenant Rights, Social Assistance, Canada Pension Plan Disability, Employment Insurance, and Consumer Law.  Areas of service for this position include the City of Kenora and surrounding municipalities and First Nation communities. Periodic travel to Red Lake and Ear Falls may be required, as well as occasional virtual/telephone service in the Rainy River District.

Wages: Starting salary range $65,000 – $80,000 (non-licensee) or $75,000 to $90,000 for a licensed Paralegal, depending on experience, qualifications and funding.

Duties of this LEAP Job Posting:

As the successful candidate, you will be given considerable responsibility. You must demonstrate strong organizational skills.  You will work under the direction and mentorship of the clinic lawyers and paralegal to:

  • Undertake legal casework in all or some of the areas of law practiced at NCLC
  • Provide summary advice, brief service and representation of clients before tribunals
  • Develop and implement community development and legal education programs in partnership with community organizations
Qualifications for this LEAP Job Posting:
  • Familiarity with clinic law issues
  • Understanding of social justice issues
  • Excellent research, writing and advocacy skills
  • Proficiency with MSWord and Outlook, and familiarity with Excel
  • Ability to travel, including valid Ontario Driver’s licence
  • Acceptable Criminal Reference check
  • Clinic law or other practice experience would be considered an asset for the position.
  • Law Society of Ontario licensee preferred (Paralegal), but not required
