Wages: Along with voluntary participation in the OMERS pension plan, we offer an hourly wage of $24.15 (accordance with the collective agreement)

Duties of this LEAP Job Posting:
  • Ensure the cleanliness of the kitchen and equipment, with strict adherence to the policies and procedures of the KDSB and the local health unit.
  • Plans all meals two weeks in advance maintaining nutrition standards of Canada’s Food Guides and the special dietary needs of some children (planning a substitute when necessary). Post menu two weeks in advance; must remain flexible about menu changes because of program changes.
  • Prepares, cooks and presents all food that is served in all the programs; is aware of allergies, medical problems and eating behaviours/patterns; acts as a resource for parents and others on meal planning; prepares meals/snacks for special events. Prepares and implements menus.
  • Transport prepared meals and menu items off premises to all KDSB Early Learning centres.
  • Responsible for ensuring that a wide variety of food items are purchased in accordance with the budget, to ensure that meals and snacks vary.
  • Ensures meals and snacks are prepared and delivered according to program schedule. Ensure all foods are available and defrosted for next day’s menu.
  • Responsible for maintaining menus, recipes and other resources; posts and notifies changes to menu at all sites as required.
  •  Records all dietary substitutions for children on a weekly menu log.
  •  Maintain and record daily food temperature checklist of foods served.
  •  Responsible for ordering food and other supplies, ensuring the quantity and products are delivered;ensures food spoilage or waste does not occur. Checks off food orders and supplies.
  • Stores food and supplies to ensure nutritional value is maximized; regularly checks due dates and rotation of food items.
  • Responsible for keeping kitchen, kitchen equipment, food storage areas clean and tidy and in good working order; takes fridge and freezer readings/temperatures.
  • Completes all kitchen cleaning checklists; ensures proper storage of cleaning tools, supplies and equipment. Open and locks kitchen as required; maintains and completes weekly cleaning logs.
  • Responsible to read and store manuals for all equipment to ensure proper use.
  • Reports any damage to Early Years Quality Assurance Coordinator; arranges for repair or replacement in consultation with Early Years Quality Assurance Coordinator.
  • Washes dishes, pots, pans and loads/unloads dishwasher.
  • Empty kitchen garbage daily along with recyclables.
  • Daily disinfect tables, counters and sinks; Cleans and sanitizes washroom at least once a day, sometimes twice daily depending on staff availability; Daily cleans and tidies kitchen, sweeps floors and washes as needed.
  • Launders towels, face cloths and children’s clothes, sheets and blankets daily and as required; maintain washer/dryer.
  • Protect confidentiality of any personal information regarding children
  • Participate in ongoing professional development opportunities such as workshops, conferences and meetings. Prepare report and share with colleagues and/or staff information learned during these opportunities.
  • Take an active role in regular network and team/staff meetings as required.
  • Collaborate with others in maintaining a positive working environment.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications for this LEAP Job Posting:
  • Minimum three (3) year’s culinary experience
  • First Aid, including Infant and Child CPR (or the willingness to obtain)
  • Up to date immunization record, including TB skin test (or the willingness to obtain)
  • Safe Food Handlers Certificate
  • Grade 12 diploma or equivalent
  • A satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Check must be provided
  • A valid Ontario Class G (or equivalent) license in order to complete meal deliveries to the various sites
  • Eligible to work in Canada
