Duties of this LEAP Job Posting:

Reporting to KCA’s Manager of Cultural Services, the Cultural Services Trainer is responsible for delivering culturally-focused and patient-centered care training for healthcare service providers at the Lake of the Woods District Hospital (LWDH). This role will focus on fostering understanding, awareness, and action toward improving healthcare experiences for Indigenous patients, particularly Anishinaabe individuals in Kenora/Treaty 3 territory. The Trainer will collaborate with the KCA Cultural Team, Elders, Knowledge-Keepers, and hospital staff to develop and implement meaningful educational programs.

Training Facilitation

• Develop, implement, and refine cultural safety and Indigenous health training tailored for healthcare providers.
• Utilize various instructional techniques and engagement strategies to enhance learning outcomes.
• Collaborate with hospital leadership, KCA staff, and local First Nations communities to ensure training aligns with reconciliation and healthcare improvement goals.
• Provide mentorship to facilitators in training.

Participant Engagement

• Foster a respectful and inclusive learning environment for discussions on Indigenous health experiences.
• Encourage active participation and facilitate constructive conversations about First Nations health and wellness.
• Work alongside Anishinaabe Elders and Knowledge-Keepers to integrate traditional knowledge into training sessions.
• Address participant concerns and questions with empathy and cultural sensitivity.

Data Collection & Assessment

• Implement assessment tools to measure training effectiveness and impact.
• Collect and analyze feedback from participants to continuously refine content and delivery methods.
• Provide reports and recommendations for program development.

Qualifications for this LEAP Job Posting:

Education & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Education, Social Work/Services, or a Health-related field.
• 3-5 years of experience in facilitating training sessions, preferably in equity, cultural safety, and/or Indigenous health.

Skills & Competencies

• Deep understanding of systemic racism, racial equity, and social justice issues, particularly in healthcare
• Proven ability to facilitate challenging conversations and manage group dynamics effectively.
• Excellent skills in the following areas: computer, organization, networking, interpersonal, presentation and communication (written and oral)
• Knowledge of the Anishinaabe culture and language and experience in working in First Nations communities considered an asset

Personal Attributes

• Demonstrated commitment to Indigenous health equity and reconciliation.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work collaboratively within a team.
• Willingness to adjust training programs based on emerging needs and community feedback.
• Lived experience with Indigenous healthcare issues and reconciliation is considered an asset.
