Animakee Wa Zhing #37 First Nation is seeking a highly skilled and professional Director of Finance to oversee the operations of  the Finance Department. In this senior management role, you will be responsible for ensuring the financial operations, under the  direction of the General Manager and Chief and Council. As the Director of Finance, you will be expected to uphold the highest  standards of professionalism, accountability, and autonomy.

The Director of Finance will lead the Finance Department and ensure compliance with the First Nation’s Financial Administration  By-Law, all funding agreements, and relevant regulations. You will manage all financial reporting, budgeting, audit functions, and  staff within the department. This role plays a crucial part in maintaining the financial health of the First Nation, and providing  financial guidance to the Chief and Council.

Duties of this LEAP Job Posting:
  • Oversee the complete operation of the Finance Department, including supervision of staff. 
  • Ensure compliance with the First Nation’s Financial Administration By-Law and all funding agreements.
  • Prepare annual budgets, monitor financial performance, and manage the financial reporting process. Lead and coordinate external audits, ensuring all requirements are met. 
  • Develop and implement financial systems, policies, and procedures to support effective financial management.
  • Provide regular financial reports to Chief and Council and ensure transparency and accountability in financial operations.
  • Lead the development of financial strategies to meet the First Nation’s long-term goals.
  • Collaborate with other departments and stakeholders to ensure financial needs are met in line with strategic initiatives.
Qualifications for this LEAP Job Posting:
  • A post-secondary degree or diploma in financial management or a related field, with at least five (5) years of management experience or equivalent. 
  • Preference will be given to candidates with Certified Aboriginal Professional Administration (CAPA) designation, or  willingness to obtain. 
  • Strong working knowledge of human resources management and labour relations.  
  • Extensive experience in financial systems, accounting practices, and financial principles.  
  • Experience in budget oversight and long-range financial planning.  
  • Sound decision-making skills and the ability to lead and motivate staff. 
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact with a variety of stakeholders.  • Experience writing proposals and reporting on municipal, territorial, and federal program proposals.
