Duties of this LEAP Job Posting:

Under the supervision of the Executive Director, together with the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services, the Drug, Education and Living Program Worker works primarily on-site at the Kenora District Jail to address the needs of Indigenous inmates.

  • Design and deliver a drug and alcohol education and living program to inmates
  • Organize and facilitate individual and group counselling sessions
  • Coordinate the visits of elders and other cultural resources to support programming
  • Develop and deliver a spiritual and cultural awareness program for Indigenous inmates
  • Liaise with community treatment resources, community agencies, and Indigenous communities and organizations
  • Provide treatment centres and community agencies with information on the program
  • Establish and maintain an effective working relationship with the Native Inmate Liaison Officers and other Kenora Jail personnel
  • Prepare and submit regular reports and statistics pertaining to program activities and clients
Qualifications for this LEAP Job Posting:
  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in social or human services; or relevant accredited training combined with related work experience
  • Experience working in a correctional or justice setting
  • Previous experience working in an Indigenous organization or community
  • Positive attitude & demonstrated capacity to act as a healthy lifestyle role model
  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong communication skills, oral and written
  • Ability to speak Ojibway, Cree or Oji-Cree is a definite asset
  • Computer literacy skills are essential
