Washagamis Bay First Nation is currently seeking full-time Education Assistants and Early Childhood Educators for our community school, Kaa’Naa’Matay Wiigiiam Teaching Lodge, located at McKenzie Portage Road, Kenora, Ontario. The successful candidates must be able to effectively divide their time between work-related tasks, working in a team setting, and providing students with guidance and academic support. Successful candidates will support students who require assistance with academics, social stress or other issues that may arise during the school year.
- Ontario High School Diploma or equivalent is an asset
- Training in any one of the following: Diploma in Educational Assistant Program, Early Childhood Education Program, Developmental Services Worker Program, Child Care Worker Program, Children’s Services Program, Ontario Teacher’s Certification or equivalent is an asset
- Any training in behavioral management considered an asset
- Member in Good Standing with the Ontario College of Teachers would be an asset
- Experience working with both elementary and secondary students is an asset
- Proficient communication and organization skills
- Experience in working with Indigenous children, youth and families in a healing and reconciliation capacity an asset
- Strong connection to the Indigenous community and resources an asset
- Strong knowledge of Anishinaabe language, culture, tradition, history and local community is preferred
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word or Google Suite including applications
- A cleared, ongoing criminal record check and vulnerable sector check is required
- Willingness to work in outdoor land-based learning environment with cultural connections
