Wages: $55,000 - $65,000 Per Annum
Duties of this LEAP Job Posting: Reporting to the FASD Team Lead, the FASD worker will support families waiting for FASD assessment and/or provide follow-up support following a completed assessment within a culturally safe and trauma informed framework. The FASD worker will work closely with the interdisciplinary FASD team and should have experience working with individuals with FASD and hold a commitment to a strengths-based approach. Emphasis will be given to supporting families within KCA communities. Lived experience of local culture and traditions is an asset.
Duties:
- Develop and implement programs that promote the preservation and transmission of cultural knowledge related to the land
- Agencies (FIREFLY, SLFNHA) to support families through the FASD assessment process, and in following-up with assessment recommendations
- Facilitate connections to supports (as available), and provide information to families
- In conjunction with the FASD team, facilitate regional peer and parent support groups
- Work with family, service providers and educators in supporting the child/youth to build capacity and identify strengths-based strategies
- Work with youth, and their family, and service providers across sectors to plan for a transition from child and youth services to adult services, as required
- Liaise with agencies working within communities providing support and education around FASD
- Participate in provincially-offered training to increase capacity to support children and youth with FASD and their families
- Facilitate access to Anishinaabe knowledge, traditions and culture (if appropriate and desired)
- Maintain documentation within databases used by FASD Clinic and KCA
Qualifications for this LEAP Job Posting:
- Post-secondary education in Indigenous studies and/or combination of equivalent and relevant education and experience
- Formal education in a social science or health related field is an asset
Knowledge of Anishinaabe culture and experience in working in First Nation communities an asset
- Experience working with complex family dynamics
- Ability to be flexible and adaptable
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Commitment to strength-based principles of child, youth and family-centredness
- Experience working with the child and youth service system
- Ability to work independently and contribute to a team
- Strong organizational and reporting skills
- Proficiency in the use of computers and various software applications an asset
