The Ne-Chee Indigenous Community Justice Program Coordinator will work with Indigenous offenders charged with a variety of criminal offences in an effort to address the root cause of a person’s criminal behaviour. This program will utilize traditional concepts of justice and address the needs of victims and offenders in a holistic manner. The ICJP is recognized as an Indigenous specific Intimate Partner Violence Prevention Program (IPVP)

Wages: Comprehensive benefit package including a pension plan Salary Range: $46,000 to $48,000 to start

Duties of this LEAP Job Posting:
  • To coordinate and facilitate the recruitment, training, retention and scheduling of volunteer Steering Committee Members and Council Members
  • To maintain and enhance partnerships with judicial and community resources in the implementation, development and maintenance of the Indigenous Community Justice Program
  • To liaise with Indigenous and non- Indigenous resources/service providers
  • To work with and meet with necessary justice personnel in the development of diversion protocols (i.e., Crown Attorneys and Police Services).
  • To collaborate with the Indigenous Court workers, and RJ Liaison in the advocacy of the diversion of clients to the Indigenous Community Justice Program
  • To facilitate diversion circles with Council Members, clients, victims and any support persons
  • To provide on-going support to clients in their Healing Plan/Disposition efforts
  • To provide on-going supervision and support of program staff and volunteers
Qualifications for this LEAP Job Posting:
  • Graduation from, or extensive work-related experience in, the following fields: Indigenous Community Justice, Alternative Justice, Law, Criminology, Law and Justice, Law Enforcement, Social Work, Psychology, Community Services
  • Knowledge of Indigenous Community Justice Concepts and Alternative Justice Programs and concepts
  • Knowledge of the Canadian justice system; legislation, and cases relevant to Indigenous Justice issues and programs
  • Knowledge of Indigenous culture, traditions, and practices; Ability to speak Ojibway or Oji-Cree is an asset
  • Ability to conduct public speaking engagements; Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Working knowledge of computers and various applications
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends
  • Valid driver’s licence and access to a reliable vehicle
