Duties of this LEAP Job Posting:

Under the direction of the Executive Director and Senior Aboriginal Healing Counselor, the Healing and Wellness Support Worker shall perform their duties as outlined in their job description. The Healing and Wellness Support Worker will be ensuring the security of the Centre facilities and residences through evenings (4:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.) and weekends (8:30am to 8:30pm or 8:30pm to 8:30am). The Healing and Wellness Support Worker will ensure the safety of all occupants within the facility during a shift; ensure that the clients are constantly accounted for and maintain any curfew requirements, facilitate group sessions, recreational therapy and outings and provide support services.

Qualifications for this LEAP Job Posting:
  • A certificate in counseling/addictions or related work experience in the addictions field.
  • Experience in working with First Nations communities and residential treatment program.
  • Thorough knowledge of the substance abuse field, especially as it relates to First Nations People.
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of the Anishinaabe People; communities and their culture, traditions and values in conjunction with the Twelve Steps of the Alcoholics Anonymous Program and Life skills Program.
  • Excellent and strong communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Confidentiality a must.
  • Must be sensitive and understanding to the needs of our patrons we provide services for.
  • Pleasant personality.
  • Punctuality a must.
  • Strong organizational abilities, planning and ability to carry through.
  • Ability to handle crisis calmly and in a positive manner.
  • Participates in living the good life (Mino Bimaadiziwin).
  • Experience in the delivery of a Treatment Centre Program will be an asset.
  • Fluency in Ojibway or Oji Cree is considered an asset.
  • Valid First Aid and CPR required.
  • Valid Class “G” license is required. Willingness to get a Valid Class “F” license
  • Must provide a criminal reference check.
