Duties:

The Ne-Chee Friendship Centre is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Indigenous Healing & Wellness Coordinator. The successful candidate will have the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.

The overall goal of the Indigenous Healing and Wellness Program is to support the healing and wellness of the Indigenous community by implementing the Indigenous Healing and Wellness Strategy at the local level. This role focuses on reducing family violence, promoting healthy lifestyles, delivering culture-based programming, and supporting holistic healing.

  • Identify individuals and families in need of healing and wellness services
  • Provide emergency response, support, and follow-up in situations involving family violence
  • Refer victims to appropriate community and support services
  • Link offenders with legal services and/or appropriate treatment programs
  • Maintain accurate, confidential, and up-to-date client records
  • Promote healthy lifestyles through home visits, healing circles, workshops, seminars, and public education forums
  • Promote Indigenous culture-based healing practices
  • Facilitate healing circles for children, youth, men, and women
  • Organize and facilitate community events that promote healing, wellness, addiction-free living, positive parenting, family interaction, and cultural awareness
  • Promote violence-free lifestyles
  • Provide ongoing liaison services and follow-up to ensure individual and family needs are being met

 

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in Social Services, Health, Human Services, or related field; or a combination of relevant education and several years of related experience
  • Previous experience working with Indigenous individuals and community organizations
  • Strong knowledge of Indigenous values, traditions, cultures, and practices
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities with strong time-management skills
  • Highly organized and able to work with minimal supervision to meet deadlines
  • Ability to speak Ojibway or Oji-Cree is considered an asset
  • Strong computer literacy skills
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle
  • First Aid/CPR certification is a definite asset
  • Positive attitude and ability to serve as a healthy lifestyle role model
  • Vulnerable Persons Check required upon offer of employment
