Due to the surge in COVID-19 cases within the Kenora region, KCA is seeking motivated individuals provide support to patients on site at our COVID Isolation Centre. This support includes monitoring isolation timelines, providing daily check-ins to address wholistic needs, activating clinical and medical services where needed – i.e. withdrawal management, chronic health challenges. The objective is to manage the daily care of isolating patients as best as possible while ensuring the safety of staff.

Duties of this LEAP Job Posting:

Day Shift – 7am – 7pm

  • Shift change and note exchange from night staff, reviewing previous logs to keep up to date on patient needs and process.
  • Intake with patients over the phone after they arrive/settle into their rooms – conducting basic clinical screeners for withdrawal and substance use.
  • Alerting Coordinator of all emergencies, or critical incidents when they arise. Logging significant events, changes in patient behaviors, anything that should be passed onto the next shift.

9:30 am – Serve breakfast – protocol: drop at doorway for patient pick up.

12:30 pm – Serve lunch – protocol: drop at doorway for patient pick-up, also provide snacks if needed.

6:30pm – Serve dinner – protocol: drop at doorway for patient pick up.

  • Responding to patient requests for snacks, toiletries, etc. and dropping them off at hotel room doors.
  • Monitoring all supply inventory – making shopping lists and activating staff to go shopping/on supply runs – consult staff availability with Coordinator
  • Cleaning duties as required – safe disposal of biohazard PPE off-site.

Clinical Support:

  • Tracking medications provided on patient PRN tracking sheet.
  • Helping support medical team with managed alcohol program and medication distribution.

Night Shift – 7pm – 7am

  • Alerting Coordinator of all emergencies, or critical incidents when they arise. Logging significant events, changes in patient behaviors, anything that should be passed onto the next shift.
  • Shift change and note exchange from day staff, reviewing previous logs to keep up to date on patient needs and process.
  • Tracking medications provided on patient PRN tracking sheet
  • Intake with patients (see day shift) – reduced compared to day intakes, should be minimal.
  • Responding to patient requests for snacks, toiletries, etc.
  • Make notes for day staff regarding low stock items, any shopping needs, and PPE levels – record updates on inventory.
  • Cleaning duties as required.

Monitoring and Reporting:

  • Keep accurate, timely patient contact records in accordance with program requirements;
  • All data entry should be completed regularly, within 24-hours for crisis interventions;
  • Track significant interactions, and follow-up with individual youth and their families;
  • Keep detailed daily records and logs and ensure that the shift change meeting includes an update on any issues that may have arisen;
  • Ensure that all patient specific information is logged into MIS on a daily basis
Qualifications for this LEAP Job Posting:
  • Valid driver’s license and vehicle;
  • Willing to travel (when required) to all Treaty #3 First Nation communities;
  • Current satisfactory criminal reference check with vulnerable sector search.
