Duties of this LEAP Job Posting:

Washagamis Bay First Nation is currently seeking an innovative and qualified Junior High School Teacher to teach students at our school for the 2022-2023 school year (Starting end of April 2023). The applicant must be a self-motivated individual with a keen interest in encouraging and inspiring students to learn. Some responsibilities include: Identifying clear teaching objectives and specifying how students will be assessed; Marking and monitoring students’ work; Preparing Report Cards during scheduled reporting periods; Ensuring students acquire and consolidate knowledge, skills and understanding appropriate to the subject being taught; Establish effective working relationships and set a good example through their presentation and personal and professional conduct; Perform other school related duties as required; Demonstrated planning, teaching and class management; Problem-solving and decision- making to deal with learning problems or behavioural problems.

Qualifications for this LEAP Job Posting:
  • Applicants must possess a Bachelor of Education degree or Education diploma, and must be in good standing with the Ontario College of Teachers.
  • Knowledge of Ontario curriculum and instructional strategies.
  • Preferred a minimum of three years’ successful teaching experience in any of the following: primary, junior or intermediates/senior divisions.
  • Any prior experience or a willingness to integrate Anishinaabe language, culture into the Ontario curriculum would an asset.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills to communicate effectively with colleagues, parents and students.
  • Must possess excellent management, planning and organizational skills.
  • Cultural sensitivity to the Anishinaabe Culture and Language is a must.
  • A cleared criminal record check and vulnerable sector check is required ongoingly.
  • Must possess valid driver’s license.
