NorthStream Safety & Rehab is currently seeking to hire a part-time medical lab technician in Red Lake, Ontario to help support the area and also potentially Dryden, Sioux Lookout and Kenora if required. The successful candidate would be working alongside our nursing staff to assist NorthStream with rapid COVID-19 testing, among other types of medical testing in the region. Our ideal candidate is an experienced professional, able to provide references from previous employers and ready to get started as soon as possible

Wages: $25.00-$35.00 per hour, depending on experience

Duties of this LEAP Job Posting:
  • Conduct rapid COVID-19, standard medical or clinical test procedures and authorize the release of results and further discussing the results with clients
  • Perform daily maintenance activities and perform advanced troubleshooting
  • Collecting, receiving, labeling, and/or analyzing samples or substances using the correct testing equipment, when necessary
  • Designing and executing laboratory testing in line with standard testing procedures, recording observations, and interpreting findings
  • Recording all experimental data and test results accurately and in the specified format
  • Organizing and storing all chemical substances, fluids, and compressed gases according to safety instructions
  • Ensuring that safety guidelines are adhered to at all times within the laboratory
  • Maintaining daily logs and equipment record books
  • Cleaning, sterilizing, maintaining, and calibrating laboratory equipment as per COVID-19 guidelines
  • Ordering laboratory supplies, as needed
  • Providing technical support, when necessary
  • Keeping up to date with relevant scientific and technical developments in a fast-paced environment
Qualifications for this LEAP Job Posting:
  • MANDATORY certification in good standing with the CMLTO (College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario)
  • Proven experience of four to six years is preferred
  • Candidates must have the knowledge and adhere to the PHOL Code of Conduct and Ontario Laboratory Accreditation requirements
  • Applicant must have the ability to work in an automated environment and be computer driven equipment
  • Working experience operating electrical and non-electrical laboratory equipment
  • Previous experience as a Medical Laboratory Technologist preferred
  • Demonstrated expertise in blood collection (including challenging procurement) and ECG Practices preferred
  • Experience with processing specimens, operating laboratory instruments preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize tasks/responsibilities
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently
  • Demonstrated ability to function in a diverse work environment
  • In depth knowledge of QHSE management systems, preventative measures, and laboratory best practices
  • Ability to work autonomously and under pressure
