Reporting to the Territorial Planning Unit Director, the TPU Forestry Intern will provide a broad range of technical support and evaluation services to Treaty #3 Communities on issues relating to Forestry and the GCT3 Collaboration in the Bush project in the Treaty #3 Territory. The opportunity will foster growth and learning for a recent graduate in the above mentioned fields through the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund. Please view eligibility requirements below.

Duties of this LEAP Job Posting:
  • Builds and maintains relationships with Treaty 3 communities and other organizations to stimulate information sharing;
  • Meets with Treaty 3 Communities to gain an understanding of local issues and enhance working relationships with each community;
  • Build skills and knowledge to supplement future career opportunities;
  • Provides technical support and advision to the Territorial Planning Unit.
  • Review legislative documents (federal, provincial, municipal) in relation to forestry
  • Provide technical expertise to Treaty #3 communities as requested
  • Participate in Natural Resources related meetings as needed
  • Conducts structured analysis of the environmental, natural resources, or related issues and prepares comprehensive technical reports or briefing notes.
  • Help with the organization of meetings and engagement sessions in relation to forestry such as developing meeting materials and information packages
  • Research and develop funding applications as they relate to the TPU
  • Provide technical expertise and support in the development of related reports and engagement documentation as necessary
  • Represents Grand Council Treaty 3 at meetings, workshops, and conferences and / or as directed by an immediate supervisor Conducts data gathering, investigation, and technical evaluation using advanced software and database tools, as appropriate.
  • Assists in the day-to-day administration of the Territorial Planning Unit.
Qualifications for this LEAP Job Posting:
  • Are new entrants into the work force, are transitioning to a new career, or the unemployed or underemployed who are entering a new field;
  • Have not previously participated in a NOHFC-funded internship;
  • Are at least 18 years of age; and
  • Reside, and be legally entitled to work, in Canada.

Preference will be given to those applicants with:

  • Experience and Education working in the field of Forestry will be considered an asset.
  • Experience and Education working with Indigenous Peoples and Anishinaabe Culture will be considered an asset.
  • Experience using computer applications, especially geographical information systems, statistical software, and /or information management system.
  • Experience communicating and building relationships with partners in the resources development sector (e.g. mining, forestry, energy)
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective, respectful working relationships with GCT3 staff, Treaty #3 First Nations, federal or provincial ministerial staff, and the general public.
  • valid Ontario driver’s license
