Duties of this LEAP Job Posting: Join the dynamic Human Resources Team at Kenora Chiefs Advisory as a Payroll & Benefits Specialist! Reporting to the Director of Human Resources and serving the eight First Nations of the Treaty 3 area, this role offers an exciting opportunity to play a vital part in supporting our employees. You will oversee payroll, pension, and benefits administration, ensuring seamless and efficient processes that enhance the overall employee experience. Your expertise will contribute to a strong and engaged workforce, making a meaningful impact within our organization and the communities we serve.
- Process in-house bi-weekly payroll for all employees.
- Remit statutory deductions and perform reconciliations of same.
- Work with directors, managers and Human Resources staff to ensure payroll is accurate and employees are paid as per ESA and employment contracts.
- Administer and monitor benefits plan, while calculating and remitting employee/employer payments.
- Administer and monitor pension plans, while calculating and remitting employee/employer contributions.
- Reconcile annual payroll, prepare and file T4’s and T4A’s.
- Ensure payroll controls are adhered to for consistency and compliance.
- Respond to staff inquiries regarding payroll, benefits, and pension matters.
- Complete account reconciliations at end of each pay period.
- Monitor staff vacation and other leave banks to ensure policy compliance.
- Administer employee benefits programs, including health insurance and pension plans.
- Oversee Short-Term Disability (STD) claims and return-to-work processes.
- Collaborate with payroll and HR teams to ensure accurate and timely benefits processing.
- Provide guidance and support to employees on compensation and benefits-related inquiries.
- Maintain strict confidentiality.
- Provide support across Human Resource team, when required.
- Other duties, as required
Qualifications for this LEAP Job Posting:
- Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) designation from Canadian Payroll Association, preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field, considered an asset.
- Experience using Payworks and Sage software an asset
- Ability to work independently and in a team setting
- Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality and professionalism.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent computer skills, organizational skills and networking skills
- Excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills
- Experience working in First Nation communities is an asset.
- Valid driver’s license and vehicle
- Willing to travel (when required) to all Treaty #3 First Nation communities
- Current satisfactory criminal reference check with vulnerable sector search
