Reporting to the Director of Equine Therapy, the Recreational Therapist shall be part of the Equine Therapy team. The Recreational Therapist shall deliver services such as treatment planning, treatment implementation and evaluation to restore, remediate and/or rehabilitate specific aspects of physical, cognitive, emotional or social functioning in a culturally appropriate manner to individuals from KCA’s nine (9) member First Nations communities.

Duties of this LEAP Job Posting:
  • Develop an initial intake and assessment plan for clients
  • Develop individualized recreational therapy treatment plan that includes preferences expressed by the
    client, short term, long term, and/or post-treatment related functional outcome goals and the treatment
    interventions to be used to achieve these goals
  • Prepare clients for treatment and implement the individualized treatment plan(s) using appropriate
    treatment interventions, in tandem with other supports, to restore, remediate and/or rehabilitate
    physical, cognitive, emotional or social functioning in order to enhance the client’s independence in performing life activities
  • Evaluate client progress and satisfaction with the treatment interventions provided and modify treatment
    plans accordingly
  • Develop recreational therapy discharge plans (for when treatment is completed) and refer clients to external services when necessary
  • Advocate for clients in need of specialized equipment etc. and complete funding applications to assist with obtaining them
  • Additional duties as required
Qualifications for this LEAP Job Posting:
  •  Post-Secondary education in Recreational Therapy
  • Ability to become certified in field of study
  • Demonstrated knowledge of evidence-based assessment instruments and techniques for conducting
    individualized client assessments, interpret assessment results and evaluate client progress
  • Demonstrated knowledge of assistive devices and First Nations funding options for assistance with
    obtaining specialized assistive devices
  • Ability to work independently and in a team setting
  • Excellent skills in the following areas: computer, organization, networking, interpersonal, presentation
    and communication (written & oral)
  • Experience working with children and families
  • Experience with horses an asset
  • Knowledge of the Anishinaabe culture and language and experience in working in First Nation communities
