“Strengthening Your Spirit” is a Social and Cultural Wellness Pilot Program that aims to improve mental wellness and create a connection to their culture in order to reduce rates of recidivism in Indigenous people. This program will include the development and delivery of strength-based programming and aftercare through relationship building with local service providers to be able to assist and support individuals in making a greater positive impact within the community.

Duties of this LEAP Job Posting:
  • Ensure that services are being delivered in a good way – true to program objectives, cultural protocols, community and agency standards of practice, and professional ethics;
  • Support front-line wellness staff through a clinical supervision model that includes regular reviews of client caseloads, debriefing, taking part in group work where necessary, and case conferencing related to clients with complex needs;
  • Develop positive and good working relationships with community leaders, relevant professionals and parallel agencies through collaboration;
  • Promote both Anishinaabe & mainstream approaches to healing & helping when it comes to wellness;
  • Monitoring and evaluation of staff performance;
  • Supporting the Professional Development of staff;
  • Providing some of the staff training in areas of clinical need;
  • Staff assignment and distribution to best meet the needs of all the communities;
  • Work alongside Support Services to monitor that staff input data on a consistent basis, ensuring on-going quality service to clients, and for accurate reporting to ministry and communities;
  • Mentoring staff on standards of practice in case noting, as well as tools used by the service in data collection and assessment;
  • Support the growth of the Service by having input on the development of program evaluation, design and visioning.
Qualifications for this LEAP Job Posting:
  • Minimum requirement of a Bachelor Degree in Social Work or Psychology;
  • Experience in managing staff and providing leadership;
  • Experience working in correctional or justice setting, and/or several years of clinical experience, and experience providing therapy or counselling within the Mental Health and Addictions/Social Services field;
  • Excellent skills in the following areas: computer, organization, networking, interpersonal, presentation and communication (written & oral);
  • Knowledge of the Anishinaabe culture and language and experience in working in an Indigenous community or organization;
  • Understanding of the Anishinaabe language (Ojibway) is an asset;
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle is preferred;
  • Willing to travel (when required);
  • Current satisfactory criminal reference check with vulnerable sector search.
