The Water Quality Analyst is part of the Kenora Chiefs Advisory Health team and reports to the Director of Service-Environmental Health. The objective of this position is to help confirm safe drinking water is provided to our member communities through regular sampling and reporting. As such, the Water Quality Analyst will be responsible for taking water samples, managing supplies and schedules, entering data, as well as preparing and delivering water quality reports.

Duties of this LEAP Job Posting:
  • Conduct regular monthly, quarterly, and yearly water sampling in our 9-member communities
  • Notify the Environmental Health Officer (EHO) immediately of any adverse results or irregularities in water quality
  • Manage inventory for bacteriological and chemical sampling as well as provide supplies to support community Colilert labs
  • Monitor and calibrate instruments to ensure accurate test results
  • Ensure test results are promptly and precisely entered into the water management database
  • Produce and prepare water quality reports and deliver completed reports to community leadership in a timely manner
  • Develop and maintain a site visitation schedule in collaboration with community Water Treatment Plant Operators
  • Communicate with Water Treatment Plant Operators and review daily plant operation logs to confirm proper upkeep of drinking water systems
  • Keep up-to-date with changes in the legislation and adjust testing requirements as needed
  • Additional duties as required
Qualifications for this LEAP Job Posting:
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite, as well as an ability to learn and use information databases
  • Independently manage time and resources
  • Demonstrate a willingness to learn and participate in ongoing training
  • Knowledge of the Anishinaabe culture and demonstrable understanding of cultural safety
  • Understanding and speaking of the Ojibway language is an asset

Education and/or Experience:

  • Grade 12 Diploma or equivalent
  • Water Quality Analyst Certification or experience with drinking water quality sampling would be considered an asset
  • Experience with use of laboratory instruments and knowledge of aseptic laboratory technique
  • Knowledge of WHMIS

Additional Requirements:

  • Applicants should possess a valid driver’s license, have a vehicle, and be willing to travel when required
  • Must be able to pass a criminal record check
