We are looking for a janitor to join our team of committed professionals—this part-time position within Anishinaabe of Wauzhushk Onigum’s Kinew Child-Care Center is located in the First Nation. Under the supervision of the Daycare Supervisor of Kinew Childcare Centre, the janitor is responsible for general cleaning of the building and keeping it maintained and in good condition. This can include vacuuming, mopping, sanitizing restrooms, taking out trash, recycling and washing and cleaning windows and mirrors.

Duties of this LEAP Job Posting:
  • Ensure that the health code standards are met/exceeded
  • Other duties as assigned by the Daycare Supervisor
  • Sweep, mop, scrub and wax hallways, floors and stairs
  • Operate industrial vacuum cleaners to remove scraps, dirt, heavy debris and other refuse
  • Empty trash cans, other waste containers and dispose at community waste site
  • Wash windows, interior walls and ceilings
  • Inform Supervisor if repairs and maintenance are required from outside contractors
  • Perform minor repairs and other routine maintenance jobs
  • Water and tend to plants, lawns and/or gardens
  • Clean and disinfect bathrooms and fixtures
  • Work with minimal supervision
  • Clean snow and ice from walkways, playgrounds and parking areas
Qualifications for this LEAP Job Posting:
  • Education: No degree, certificate or diploma
  • Experience: Will train
  • Able to perform repetitive tasks
  • Able to bend, crouch, kneel, and lift
  • Knowledge of appropriate health and safety standards and code
  • Ability to protect the confidentiality of all information and communications (oral and written) about the Child Care Center, its staff, students, volunteers, the children in our care and their families
  • Knowledge of the Anishinaabe Tradition, values and language
  • Current and satisfactory Police Record Check with Vulnerable Sector
  • Dependable and reliable
