Position Summary: Reporting to the Director of Resident Care and the Executive Director, this role is for providing oversight and leadership to the infection prevention and control (IPAC) program (practices and protocols) and staff development/education program. The role is responsible to ensure regulatory compliance and implementation of clinical and non-clinical care standards and best practices according to the Fixing Long-Term Care Act, 2021 and ON Regulation 246/22.

Requirements:
➢ 2-Step TB Test or Chest X-Ray within 14 days prior to date of hire.
➢ Police Vulnerable Sector Check dated no later than 6 months from date of hire.
➢ Up-to-Date Immunization Record.
➢ Current First Aid and CPR-HCP.
➢ Demonstrated knowledge of Infection Prevention and Control Routine and Additional Practices.
➢ Demonstrated knowledge of Protection of Personal Health Information Act.
➢ Excellent leadership, organization, critical-thinking, problem-solving, and computer skills.
➢ Fluent in both written and spoken English.
➢ Knowledge of First Nations history, language, and culture an asset.
➢ Education and experience in Infectious diseases, cleaning and disinfection, outbreak management, reporting protocols, and data collection.

Duties of this LEAP Job Posting:
  • Coordination and implementation of infection prevention and control practices for the Home;
  • Participate in the planning of an infection surveillance program and lead the management of outbreaks in consultation with the local public health unit;
  • Perform regular infection surveillance and report to senior management.
  • Educate staff on the principles and practices of infection prevention and control and act as a resource to all staff
  • Lead the annual influenza vaccination campaign;
  • Maintain current vaccines records for all residents, ensure the home is in compliance with the infection control guidelines mandated by the Fixing Long-Term Care Act, 2021;
  • Plan, develop and deliver all training/orientation for current and new employees in accordance with legislation and standards
    in consultation with the Leadership Team;
  • Perform program assessment and make recommendations for correction and improvement;
  • Monitor staff compliance with infection prevention guidelines regarding the disposal of sharps and biomedical waste, use of personal protective equipment, hand hygiene practices
  • Analyze infection trends, risk factors, and evaluate prevention and control strategies;
  • Lead outbreak response efforts in coordination with the local public health unit;
  • Regularly evaluate training programs to ensure the needs of the Home is being met;
  • Conduct research and interpret evidence-based literature in developing IPAC best practices, guidelines, tools, and resources
Qualifications for this LEAP Job Posting:
  • Current unrestricted RN or RPN Certificate of Competence from the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in other healthcare related field, e.g Microbiology, Epidemiology, Public Health, Health Science, Medicine for
    Occupational Health considered an asset
  • Completion of an IPAC Canada endorsed Infection Prevention and Control post-secondary course or equivalent or
    commitment to obtain within 2 years.
  • Certification in Infection Control/Infection Prevention (CIC/IPC) or long-term Care certification in Infection Prevention (LTC-CIP) or commitment to obtain
  • Minimum 3 to 5 years’ experience in the health sector
  • Experience working in long-term care settings as well as knowledge of legislation applicable to the position is an asset.
